Are you thinking of adopting a northern breed dog? Before you go any further, please take some time to consider what dog ownership entails. Our volunteers have written some good articles that can help you to make the right decision: So You Think You Want a Dog? and Why Should I Train My Dog? outline some of the practical, day to day points about bringing a new dog into your home.

Our Adoption Process

Here is how our adoption process works:

You will need to fill out our online adoption application. Once you have completed and submitted the application you will be contacted by one of our volunteers within 3 to 5 days. They will discuss the adoption process with you and go over your application. We will then contact your personal and vet references.

Once you are approved, a volunteer will contact you to discuss the dogs available for adoption and find candidates appropriate for your situation. We then schedule an adoption to bring 1-3 dogs to your home for you to meet and answer any questions you may have. We ask that all members of the household be home on the day of the adoption, including pets. If any dogs will be frequent visitors to your home we ask that they try to be there as well. We will check to make sure that the home is safe and point out potential problem areas that you might not be aware of, and will ask you to fix any issues before we will leave a dog with you. Northern breed dogs are escape artists, and very curious, and we don't want them getting into something that can harm them, or getting out and running loose on the street.

Adoption Fees
Our adoption fees are:

  • $275 for puppies 6 months and under
  • $235 for adults
  • $75 for seniors 9 years and older

All dogs are spayed or neutered, up to date on vaccinations (DHLPP, rabies, bordatella and Lyme) heartworm negative, on heartworm, flea and tick prevention, and microchipped at the time of adoption.
